A Power Move in the Startup World

In a major boost to India’s startup ecosystem and global AI innovation, Peeyush Ranjan, former Flipkart CTO and Google engineering leader, has officially joined Mukesh Bansal’s startup incubator, Meraki Labs, as a partner.

With this move, Meraki Labs gains a heavyweight in tech leadership—someone who has built products used by hundreds of millions and has an insider’s view of cutting-edge AI trends. Based in San Francisco, Ranjan’s entry signals a stronger push by Meraki into Silicon Valley’s startup scene, especially in artificial intelligence.

 What is Meraki Labs

A Moonshot Factor for Bold Ideas

Meraki Labs, founded by Myntra and Cult.fit co-founder Mukesh Bansal, positions itself as a startup studio and incubator for breakthrough ventures. With successful investments in startups like Groww, Skyroot Aerospace, and Lyskraft, Bansal has used his own capital to back ideas with long-term potential.

Now, with AI taking center stage, Meraki is reshaping its focus—moving from general startup incubation to becoming a launchpad for AI-powered companies.

“Meraki’s focus is to be a moonshot factory for amazing projects, and in today’s day, AI is a key component of that,” said Ranjan.

 A Silicon Valley-Bengaluru Bridge

Two Founders, Two Cities, One AI Mission

While Mukesh Bansal operates from Bengaluru, Ranjan will lead operations and strategy in Silicon Valley. This cross-continental leadership offers Meraki a unique advantage: access to global tech talent, networks, and capital.

“My presence in Silicon Valley gives Meraki an opportunity to connect with global networks and talent,” Ranjan said.

This setup ensures Meraki stays plugged into both India’s thriving tech startup space and the innovation hotbed of the U.S.

AI Is the Core of the Mission

Not Just AI for Hype—Real Problems, Real Impact

Ranjan emphasized that Meraki’s AI vision is problem-first, not trend-first. His role will be to define what kind of AI companies Meraki should create, and to guide their technical and product strategies.

“It’s not just about applying AI for the sake of it,” he said. “We want to go deep into areas where AI can truly make a difference.”

Spotlight on Nurix AI: Meraki’s Flagship AI Venture

AI Agents for Real Business Problems

One of Ranjan’s first hands-on roles will be with Nurix AI, an AI startup incubated at Meraki. He will join its board, shape its technical architecture, and advise on leadership hires.

Nurix AI, which raised $27.5 million in seed funding from Accel and General Catalyst in 2024, is building custom AI agents focused on enterprise use-cases like sales and customer support.

“Nurix is solving tasks that are tedious, error-prone, and time-consuming for humans,” Ranjan noted. “Its goal is to dive deep into business operations and automate intelligently.”

With this, Meraki is clearly targeting the ‘boring but critical’ work of enterprise AI—a space where automation can have huge efficiency gains.

 What’s Next? Maybe Consumer AI

While Nurix is enterprise-focused, Ranjan hinted that Meraki’s next big AI idea might target consumers.

“It wouldn’t be surprising if the next thing we do is focused on consumers,” he said, leaving the door open for innovations in AI-driven consumer tech, like personal assistants, content tools, or e-commerce automation.

 Why Peeyush Ranjan Matters

Building Google Assistant to Flipkart’s Tech Stack

Before joining Meraki Labs, Ranjan held a senior leadership role at Google, where he worked on Google Assistant and Gemini, a generative AI app.

At Flipkart, he played a crucial role in rebuilding the tech stack, making it scalable and competitive with global standards.

“Peeyush has built large-scale products from scratch, and has a strong pulse on emerging tech trends,” Bansal said.

This mix of deep tech understanding and product intuition makes him the ideal partner to guide Meraki’s next chapter.

The Bigger Picture: India’s Role in Global AI

The collaboration between Ranjan and Bansal reflects a larger trend: India-born entrepreneurs leading global AI innovation. With one foot in Bengaluru and another in Silicon Valley, Meraki Labs represents a new breed of tech incubators—ones that merge India’s execution power with the world’s top AI research and capital access.

If Ranjan and Bansal succeed, Meraki could become the Indian equivalent of OpenAI’s startup fund or Google X—a place where bold ideas turn into billion-dollar companies.

With Peeyush Ranjan on board, Meraki Labs is gearing up for a major leap in AI-powered startup creation. Their vision is clear: build meaningful, global-impact companies that solve real problems with AI, not just chase the hype.

Backed by proven leaders, deep networks, and serious capital, Meraki Labs might just be where India’s next big AI unicorn is born.
