Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) has clinched the position of the second-largest global solar PV developer, as revealed in Mercom Capital Group’s Annual Global Report. The report, compiled from data spanning July 2022 to June 2023, highlights AGEL’s significant contribution and performance in the renewable energy sector.

Mercom Capital Group, a clean energy communications and research firm, unveiled the top ten leading global large-scale solar PV developers in its annual report. Topping the list was France-based TotalEnergies, boasting a total capacity of 41.3 GW. AGEL secured the second spot with a total solar capacity of 18.1 GW, closely followed by Canada-based Brookfield Renewable Partners at 18 GW.

The top 10 developers collectively accounted for 145 GW of operational, under-construction, and Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)-contracted solar projects during the specified period. Among these, 49.5 GW were operational, 29.1 GW were under construction, and 66.2 GW were in the pipeline (PPA-contracted).

The list also features prominent names such as Enel Green Power, Lightsource bp, AES Renewables, EDF Renewables, Invenergy, Iberdrola, and ib vogt in descending order of rank. Notably, six of the top 10 global large-scale solar PV developers are based in Europe, while three are situated in North America. AGEL stands out as the sole South Asian company to secure a spot on the global list.

As India’s largest renewable energy solutions partner, AGEL plays a crucial role in facilitating the clean energy transition. Currently managing an operating renewable portfolio of 8.4 GW across 12 states, AGEL’s commitment to large-scale renewables aligns with its vision of achieving 45 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, reiterated the firm’s dedication to a fully integrated manufacturing ecosystem and green hydrogen solutions, with a planned total investment of $75 billion by 2030 in energy transition initiatives. The chairman emphasized AGEL’s pivotal role in India’s journey toward decarbonization.
