Azad Engineering Ltd, based in Hyderabad, has secured approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to raise Rs 740 crore through an Initial Public Offering (IPO). The regulatory green light, conveyed through SEBI’s observation letter on December 5, marks a significant milestone for the engineering firm, which initially filed its IPO papers in September.
In the IPO draft papers, Azad Engineering outlines a two-fold strategy, involving a fresh issue of up to Rs 240 crore and an Offer for Sale (OFS) of equity shares amounting to Rs 500 crore by a combination of promoters and investors. The OFS component includes the sale of equity shares worth up to Rs 170 crore by promoter Rakesh Chopdar, Rs 280 crore by Piramal Structured Credit Opportunities Fund, and Rs 50 crore by DMI Finance.
The proceeds generated from the fresh issue are earmarked for several purposes, including funding the company’s capital expenditure, debt repayment, and general corporate initiatives.
Azad Engineering specializes in supplying products to global Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) across diverse industries such as aerospace and defense, energy, and oil and gas. The company boasts an impressive clientele that includes renowned entities like General Electric, Honeywell International Inc, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Siemens Energy, Eaton Aerospace, and MAN Energy Solutions SE.
The move towards an IPO aligns with Azad Engineering’s strategic objectives and growth plans. The infusion of capital through the IPO will empower the company to further invest in its operations, enhance infrastructure, and pursue opportunities for expansion.
As part of the larger trend in the Indian market, several firms have recently gained SEBI’s approval for their respective IPOs. Notable among them are Apeejay Surrendra Park Hotels Ltd, operating under “The Park” brand of hotels, health-tech firm Medi Assist Healthcare Services, cryogenic tank manufacturer Inox India, and luxury furniture brand Stanley Lifestyles.
The approval for Azad Engineering’s IPO reflects investor confidence and interest in the engineering sector, particularly in companies catering to critical industries such as aerospace and defense. Azad Engineering’s strong customer base, with ties to globally recognized OEMs, positions it favorably as it prepares to enter the public markets.
The IPO is anticipated to provide an opportunity for investors to participate in Azad Engineering’s growth story, backed by its established market presence, strategic customer relationships, and plans for sustained expansion. The successful completion of the IPO will not only bolster Azad Engineering’s financial position but also contribute to the vibrancy of India’s capital markets.
