Karnataka Approves ₹75 Crore Fund to Boost Startups Beyond Bengaluru

In a big push for entrepreneurship, the Karnataka Cabinet has approved a ₹75 crore seed fund aimed at supporting startups outside Bengaluru. With over 80% of Karnataka’s startups concentrated in the capital, the state government is taking a significant step to promote innovation in other regions.

Additionally, the Cabinet has sanctioned ₹79 crore for a Semiconductor Maturity Accelerator Lab 2.0, aiming to strengthen India’s semiconductor industry.

Let’s break down how these initiatives will impact entrepreneurs, investors, and the tech ecosystem in Karnataka.

Why Karnataka is Investing in Startups Beyond Bengaluru

Bengaluru is widely known as India’s startup capital, home to thousands of tech startups, unicorns, and global R&D centers. However, the concentration of resources in one city has led to challenges such as:

. Limited opportunities for startups in other districts

. Lack of seed-stage funding
. Insufficient mentoring and business infrastructure

Recognizing this, the Karnataka government has decided to diversify its startup ecosystem and promote entrepreneurship across the state.

What is the ‘Beyond Bengaluru Cluster Seed Fund’?

The ₹75 crore seed fund, named the Beyond Bengaluru Cluster Seed Fund, aims to support 10,000 startups by 2030.

Key Highlights of the Fund:

✔ ₹20 crore will be provided by the government
✔ ₹55 crore will be raised from financial institutions, high-net-worth individuals (HNIs), and NRIs
✔ Will cover regions like Mysuru, Mangaluru, Hubballi-Dharwad, and Kalaburagi
✔ Reduces approval time for financial support to startups

According to an official from the Department of IT-BT, this initiative will bring together Beyond Bengaluru clusters under one umbrella, ensuring faster approvals and easier access to funding.

Sectors Targeted for Growth

The Karnataka government plans to focus on seven key entrepreneurship domains, although specific sectors have not been disclosed yet.

However, given the existing startup trends in Karnataka, we can expect funding support for:
. AI & Machine Learning
. Biotechnology & Healthcare
. Fintech & Digital Payments
. E-commerce & Consumer Tech
. EdTech & Skill Development
. SaaS & Enterprise Software
. Renewable Energy & Sustainability

This initiative will help budding entrepreneurs from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities access the same resources and opportunities available in Bengaluru.

ELEVATE – Karnataka’s Existing Startup Support Program

Karnataka already runs a flagship startup funding program called ELEVATE, which offers:
. Grants up to ₹50 lakh per startup
. Access to mentorship & networking opportunities
. Support for early-stage startups

The Beyond Bengaluru Cluster Seed Fund will complement ELEVATE by expanding funding access to startups across the state.

Karnataka’s ₹79 Crore Semiconductor Accelerator Lab 2.0

In addition to boosting startups, the Karnataka government has also approved a ₹79 crore Semiconductor Maturity Accelerator Lab 2.0.

Why is this important?

. India is heavily dependent on semiconductor imports
. Semiconductors are crucial for electronics, telecom, and automotive industries
. Developing local manufacturing will boost India’s self-reliance

Key Features of the Semiconductor Lab:

✔ Aims to attract semiconductor investments in Karnataka
✔ Will be built over a period of five years
✔ Focus on semiconductor design, development, and integration
✔ Establishment of ‘Semiconductor Future Accelerator Lab 2.0’ as a Section 8 company

With this initiative, Karnataka is positioning itself as a major hub for semiconductor research and development in India.

How These Initiatives Will Benefit Entrepreneurs & Investors

1. More Funding Opportunities for Startups

With ₹75 crore in seed funding, startups outside Bengaluru will now have better access to financial resources.

2. Strengthening Karnataka’s Tech Ecosystem

By expanding beyond Bengaluru, Karnataka can create multiple innovation hubs, similar to how Mumbai and Pune both thrive as startup ecosystems in Maharashtra.

3. Boosting Semiconductor Manufacturing in India

The ₹79 crore semiconductor lab will help India reduce dependency on imports, creating thousands of jobs and fostering cutting-edge R&D.

4. Attracting Global Investors & Tech Giants

Karnataka’s move to support semiconductors and startups will make it a more attractive destination for venture capitalists, angel investors, and multinational tech firms.

What’s Next? Karnataka’s Future Plans for Startups

The Karnataka government has announced that it will release a new startup scheme in the upcoming state budget.

While the exact financial cap and eligibility criteria have not been revealed yet, it is expected that:
✔ More funds will be allocated for startup infrastructure
✔ Special incentives may be introduced for women-led startups
✔ A focus on AI, fintech, and biotech startups

With state-backed funding and infrastructure development, Karnataka is all set to become a startup powerhouse beyond Bengaluru.

A Big Win for Entrepreneurs & Tech Innovation

Karnataka’s ₹75 crore Beyond Bengaluru Seed Fund and ₹79 crore Semiconductor Lab are huge milestones for the state’s tech and startup ecosystem.

. For entrepreneurs, this means better access to funding, mentoring, and resources.
. For investors, this opens up opportunities in emerging startup hubs outside Bengaluru.
. For the semiconductor industry, this brings a much-needed boost to local innovation and manufacturing.

With 10,000 startups expected to benefit by 2030, Karnataka is paving the way for India’s next big wave of innovation and entrepreneurship.
