In a strategic move, global retail giant Walmart has initiated the sourcing of bicycles from India through a partnership with Hero Ecotech. Walmart has announced that the first batch of bicycles manufactured in India is now available in select stores across the US, just in time for the holiday season.
This collaboration aligns with Walmart’s commitment to tripling its exports from India to reach USD 10 billion annually by 2027. Hero Ecotech, as part of this partnership, has crafted a cruiser-style bike under the Concord brand exclusively for Walmart. These bikes are available in both adult-sized men’s and women’s versions, expanding Walmart’s bicycle offerings.
The cruiser bicycles sold in Walmart’s US stores are constructed with over 90% of raw materials sourced from India, showcasing a significant contribution to the Indian manufacturing ecosystem. Andrea Albright, Executive Vice President of Sourcing at Walmart, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “India is well-positioned to support increased demand for products by Walmart customers, and we are excited about our partnership with Hero Ecotech. This collaboration furthers our work to strengthen resiliency in our global supply chain while contributing to economic growth worldwide.”
