In a strategic move, global retail giant Walmart has initiated the sourcing of bicycles from India through a partnership with Hero Ecotech. Walmart announced that the first batch of India-manufactured bicycles is now available in select US stores, just in time for the holiday season.
This collaboration is aligned with Walmart’s commitment to triple exports from India to USD 10 billion annually by 2027. Hero Ecotech has crafted a cruiser-style bike for Walmart under the Concord brand, catering to both adult-sized men’s and women’s versions. The addition of these cruisers contributes to Walmart’s expanding portfolio of bicycle offerings.
The cruisers available in Walmart US stores are constructed using over 90% of raw materials sourced from India. Andrea Albright, Executive Vice President of Sourcing at Walmart, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Hero Ecotech and emphasized India’s capability to meet the increased demand for Walmart’s products. The collaboration not only strengthens the resilience of Walmart’s global supply chain but also contributes to worldwide economic growth.
