Swiggy Instamart Rebrands as Standalone ‘Instamart’ with Bold New Identity

Swiggy Instamart, the fast-growing quick-commerce platform from food delivery giant Swiggy, has officially rebranded to ‘Instamart’ as it seeks a distinct identity in India’s fiercely competitive online grocery landscape. The brand’s bold transformation, unveiled Wednesday, signals its ambition to cement a standalone presence beyond the shadow of its food delivery parent.

Rapid Expansion Drives Instamart’s Standalone Leap

Launched by Swiggy in 2020 in response to soaring demand for quick, hyperlocal grocery deliveries during the pandemic, Instamart quickly scaled to over 25 cities, racing ahead of competitors and reshaping consumer expectations for convenience shopping.

“Instamart has grown so rapidly in scale and consumer mindshare that it can now be the hero brand within Swiggy’s portfolio,” said Ashwath Swaminathan, Chief Growth & Marketing Officer at Swiggy, in a statement to Brand Equity. “Today, a large set of users discover quick commerce through Instamart, and it is resonating with a much wider audience than we had ever anticipated.”

Distinct Visual Identity and Brand Voice

The rebranding introduces a vibrant new color palette with a dominant light purple hue, and a fresh stylized logo. The new visual assets, created in collaboration with Brand Studio and creative agency Talented, distinguish Instamart from Swiggy’s signature orange branding. In addition, Instamart’s tone will shift towards a quirky, customer-first brand voice across digital channels and marketing assets—including a revamped website, dynamic app interface, and out-of-home signage in over 25 Indian cities.

The brand’s new campaign, titled “Insta kuch bhi, mart kuch bhi,” aims to highlight how customers can order nearly anything—day or night—mirroring the flexibility and wide assortment that have become Instamart’s hallmarks.

Competitive Landscape and Growth Ambitions

With India’s quick-commerce sector experiencing exponential growth—expected to reach $5.5 billion by 2025, according to RedSeer—the move positions Instamart to better compete with nimble rivals such as Blinkit (backed by Zomato), Zepto, and BigBasket’s BB Now. Industry analysts note that the separation of Instamart’s brand aligns with trends seen in markets like Europe and China, where superfast grocery platforms have gained significant market share with distinct branding and nimble operations.

A recent report by consulting firm Bain & Company and Accel India estimates that over 25 million Indian households will be using quick-commerce services by 2025. This rapid adoption has prompted major players to invest heavily in dark stores, logistics, and marketing, intensifying the race for consumer loyalty.

Expert Perspectives: The Power of a Standalone Brand

Branding experts suggest that Instamart’s move could drive deeper market penetration and allow for targeted marketing campaigns. “When a fast-growing e-commerce player carves out a standalone identity, it gains greater flexibility to define its own customer experience and value proposition,” said Rishi Gogia, Partner at BrandSight Consulting, in an interview with ET Brand Equity. “It’s also a statement of confidence in the vertical’s long-term prospects.”

By decoupling from Swiggy’s core food delivery imagery, Instamart can tailor its proposition to appeal to new user segments, especially those focused on quick access to daily essentials rather than just restaurant meals.

Customer Impact and Looking Ahead

For users, the transition will bring changes in the look and feel of the app and delivery packaging, but core offerings—including Express delivery, a large selection of groceries, and 24×7 availability in select cities—will remain unchanged. Swiggy confirmed that Instamart will continue to leverage its parent company’s logistics infrastructure while building its brand in parallel.

“Instamart was one of the first to promise ultra-fast grocery delivery, and the new identity is symbolic of how this promise has matured into a category-defining service,” said Swaminathan.

Industry insiders expect the momentum to accelerate, with Instamart likely to expand deeper into tier 2 and tier 3 markets, increase partnerships with FMCG brands, and explore innovative delivery models in the coming months.
