The funding round, led by notable venture capital firms such as Nexus Venture Partners and Blume Ventures, highlights growing investor confidence in clean label startups. Clean label foods, emphasizing natural ingredients with transparent, easily understood labels, have gained rapid popularity among health-conscious Indian consumers.

“Our mission is to make genuinely healthy, transparent foods accessible to everyone,” said Ananya Rao, CEO and co-founder of Khetika. “This funding will help us accelerate product innovation and scale our supply chain to meet surging national demand.”

Industry experts point to a broader shift: “Indian consumers are increasingly scrutinizing product labels and ingredients, driving a paradigm shift in the packaged food sector,” explained Rajeev Sharma, food technology analyst at Technopak Advisors.

Strategic Expansion and Innovation

Khetika plans to allocate the ₹150 crore toward expanding its production facilities, broadening product lines, and strengthening its pan-India distribution network. Investments will also fund research and development initiatives focused on new categories, including plant-based snacks and functional beverages.

The company has already made waves with its preservative-free alternatives to traditional staples such as jams, nut butters, and cold-pressed juices—each touting transparent, ingredient-driven labels.

“Transparency and trust are at the core of Khetika’s brand promise,“ co-founder Priya Singh added. “We’ve seen a 300% increase in repeat customers year-on-year, affirming growing loyalty to clean label brands.”

The Clean Label Advantage: Data and Trends

According to a recent report by Euromonitor International, India’s clean label food market is projected to grow at 35% CAGR between 2023-2027, outpacing overall packaged food growth. Khetika’s rise mirrors this trend, as global brands and local startups compete to appeal to urban millennials and Gen Z consumers.

Key consumer priorities cited in NielsenIQ’s 2024 ‘India Health & Wellness Survey’ include:

All-natural/organic ingredients (68%)

No artificial additives/preservatives (64%)

Ethical sourcing and sustainability (52%)

Competitive Foodtech Landscape Heats Up

Khetika faces growing competition from Indian foodtech disruptors like Slurrp Farm, Whole Truth Foods, and Superfoods Valley—all touting clean ingredient labels and minimal processing.

Notably, Khetika differentiates itself through direct sourcing from 2,000+ certified Indian farmers, ensuring traceability and fair-trade practices. “We believe eliminating the middleman not only benefits consumers but also uplifts rural communities,” said Singh.

Food industry consultant Manish Bhatia notes, “Khetika’s farm-to-table approach appeals to a rising demographic that values both nutrition and ethical sourcing.”

Challenges and Outlook

While consumer interest is strong, clean label startups face hurdles including supply chain constraints, regulatory ambiguities, and the higher cost of premium ingredients. Maintaining affordability without compromising on quality remains a challenge.

However, experts believe the segment’s long-term potential is robust. “As FSSAI updates guidelines and consumer awareness matures, clean label will become a mainstream expectation,” Sharma predicted.
