Shares of the multibagger — a company whose stock has generated returns several times its initial value — jumped as much as 12% in intraday trading on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) after the board revealed its decision to split each equity share of ₹10 face value into five shares of ₹2 each. The announcement, made during a weekend regulatory filing, propelled the stock to a record closing high at ₹875, surpassing previous peaks.

“This stock split reinforces our commitment to maximizing shareholder value and broadening our investor base,” said Anil Sharma, CEO of the company, in a press release to the BSE. “By improving affordability, we expect increased participation from small and medium investors.”

Background: Understanding Stock Splits and Their Impact

Stock splits are commonly employed by high-performing companies to lower their share price without altering market capitalization. While the number of total shares grows — in this case, fivefold — each share becomes proportionally less expensive, making them more attractive to individual investors.

“Stock splits are a sign of confidence,” noted Priya Mehra, Senior Equity Analyst at Axis Securities. “When a company’s price has run up significantly, splitting the shares improves liquidity, paves the way for wider retail participation, and may draw in new institutional investors.”

The company in question has delivered staggering returns of over 650% in the last three years, earning the “multibagger” tag among stock market watchers. According to data from Moneycontrol, its market capitalization now exceeds ₹8,600 crore, with the stock outperforming sectoral peers by a substantial margin.

Key Details of the Stock Split

The company’s board approved the split of each share (face value of ₹10) into five shares (face value of ₹2) and set the record date for eligible shareholders later this month, pending statutory approvals. Investors holding shares as of the record date will receive additional shares at no extra cost.

Industry observers point out that such splits often lead to higher trading volumes and, in many cases, a near-term boost in share prices as the “split effect” draws media and retail investor attention.

“Stock splits do not fundamentally alter the value of holdings, but they can be catalysts for momentum,” said Rakesh Malhotra of Edelweiss Financial Services. “If the growth trajectory continues, splits make the stock accessible without diluting value.”

Market Reaction and Analyst Perspectives

Trading volumes for the company surged more than threefold in early session, with the stock hitting upper circuits amid bullish sentiment. Several brokerage houses upgraded their near-term outlook, citing continued earnings momentum and strong management guidance.

A report from ICICI Securities highlighted the company’s robust fundamentals: “Consistent quarterly growth, expansion into international markets, and efficient capital utilization have reinforced long-term investor confidence. The stock split further improves retail appeal, in line with market expectations for the sector.”

Market participants are encouraged to watch out for ex-date trading, as prices are expected to adjust for the split accordingly. Some experts urge caution, noting that splits can lead to short-term volatility or profit-booking, particularly from early investors.

Company Profile and Growth Drivers

Founded in 2003, the company operates in the specialty chemicals sector—a space witnessing rapid expansion due to rising global demand and regulatory shifts. Major clients include leading pharmaceutical and agrochemical firms. Recent investments in R&D and sustainable production have positioned the firm as a top performer in the segment.

“Favorable industry tailwinds, a strong export order book, and prudent financial management are the key levers supporting our bullish stance,” said Mehra of Axis Securities.

What’s Next for Investors?

The company will soon announce book closure dates and further corporate actions related to the stock split in coordination with the BSE. Investors are advised to review their portfolio positions and consult with advisors on the implications of the split, particularly regarding tax treatment and portfolio balancing.

Analysts recommend closely monitoring post-split trading patterns for potential buying opportunities, while staying alert to any corrections or profit-taking that might emerge.
