India’s ambitious IndiaAI Mission has witnessed an overwhelming response in its second round of applications, with 120 new proposals submitted for building India’s sovereign AI foundation models. This is nearly double the 67 proposals received in the first round, bringing the total number of applications to 187.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is now gearing up to approve select proposals by the end of this financial year, according to a senior government official. “We should have three foundational models by the end of this year.”
