Titan’s Second Attempt to Acquire Damas Jewellery – Will It Succeed?

Titan Revives Talks for Damas Jewellery Stake

Titan Co, the jewellery and watch division of the Tata Group, is once again in discussions to acquire a significant stake in Damas Jewellery, a leading luxury retailer in West Asia. The potential deal is being negotiated with Qatar-based Mannai Corp, which currently owns Damas.

Sources reveal that the two parties are discussing a valuation of approximately ₹4,500 crore ($518 million). However, no final agreement has been reached yet.

A Second Chance at the Deal

This is not Titan’s first attempt at acquiring a stake in Damas Jewellery. Previous negotiations a few years ago fell apart due to disagreements over valuation. However, Titan’s renewed interest underscores its commitment to expanding in the lucrative West Asian jewellery market.

“Valuation depends on the structure of the company and the bullion stock that Damas holds during negotiations,” said a veteran gold trade analyst.

The valuation is particularly sensitive to Damas’ bullion stock levels. If bullion stock is high, the valuation increases, but if stock is low, the valuation drops.

Why Titan Wants Damas Jewellery

Titan, known for its Tanishq brand, has been aggressively expanding in the international jewellery market. Acquiring Damas Jewellery would provide:

  • A stronger foothold in West Asia, one of the world’s top gold markets.
  • Increased access to high-net-worth customers in luxury jewellery retail.
  • Growth opportunities in premium jewellery segments.
  • A strategic push in global expansion efforts.

The Growing West Asian Jewellery Market

West Asia is a prime market for gold and diamond jewellery, driven by strong consumer demand. The region is home to affluent buyers who prefer premium brands, making it a strategic location for Titan’s global expansion.

Damas Jewellery is one of the most recognized jewellery retailers in the region, with a network of high-end stores across countries like UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.

What’s Next?

As discussions continue, Titan and Mannai Corp must find common ground on valuation. If successful, this acquisition could mark a major milestone in Titan’s international growth strategy.

Industry experts will be watching closely to see if Titan’s second attempt at acquiring Damas Jewellery succeeds, or if history repeats itself.

Titan’s renewed bid for Damas Jewellery signals serious intent to dominate the global jewellery industry. If the deal goes through, it will be a significant expansion into one of the world’s most lucrative jewellery markets.

For now, the focus remains on valuation talks. Will Titan finally secure its West Asian dream? Only time will tell
