Meet Shark Tank India’s New Judge: Srikanth Bolla

Indian entrepreneur Srikanth Bolla has made history as the first visually impaired judge on Shark Tank India. The CEO and co-founder of Bollant Industries, Srikanth has defied all odds to become a successful businessman, employing over 500 people and leading a company that generates over $150 million in revenue annually.

The announcement of his participation in Shark Tank India created a buzz on social media. Sharing pictures from the show’s set, Bolla wrote, “To survive a pool of sharks, you need to become one yourself.” His journey from a small town in Andhra Pradesh to becoming a renowned entrepreneur is truly inspiring.

Who is Srikanth Bolla?

Early Life and Challenges

Born on July 7, 1991, in Seetharamapuram, Andhra Pradesh, Srikanth Bolla faced challenges from the very beginning. Coming from a humble farming family with no formal education, his parents struggled to provide him with opportunities. Being visually impaired in a society with limited resources for disabled individuals made things even tougher.

Despite scoring 98% in his Class XII exams, Srikanth was denied admission to India’s top engineering colleges due to his disability. Refusing to accept limitations, he fought a six-month legal battle to secure his right to education. While Indian institutes rejected him, prestigious global universities welcomed him with open arms.

Education at MIT and Early Achievements

Determined to excel, Srikanth applied to top universities like Stanford, Berkeley, and Carnegie Mellon before securing admission at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), becoming its first visually impaired student. At MIT, he also worked on digital education initiatives for visually impaired students and represented India in blind cricket, chess, baseball, and swimming.

Giving Back to Society

After completing his studies, Srikanth returned to India in 2005 to serve as a Youth Leader in the Lead India Program. His mission was to fight poverty and unemployment, training over 800,000 young people in leadership, values, and employability skills.

In 2011, he co-founded the Samanvai Center for Children with Multiple Disabilities, which provided educational resources and support to students with diverse disabilities. As part of this venture, he launched India’s first Braille printing press.

The Birth of Bollant Industries

A Business with a Purpose

In 2012, Srikanth Bolla founded Bollant Industries with co-founder Ravi Mantha. The company, backed by legendary industrialist Ratan Tata, focuses on sustainable and eco-friendly products, employing a large number of people with disabilities.

Innovative and Sustainable Products

Bollant Industries specializes in:

  • Areca-based disposable products
  • Recycled Kraft paper made from municipal waste
  • Eco-friendly packaging solutions
  • Repurposing plastic waste into functional materials

Srikanth’s company not only reduces environmental waste but also provides employment opportunities to differently-abled individuals, proving that business can be both profitable and socially impactful.

Recognitions and Achievements

Srikanth Bolla’s remarkable journey has earned him global recognition. In 2017, he was named in Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list for Asia, marking him as one of India’s most influential young entrepreneurs. His inspiring life story even became the subject of a Bollywood film titled Srikanth, starring Rajkummar Rao.

Srikanth Bolla’s Message to Aspiring Entrepreneurs

Reflecting on his journey, Srikanth shared on social media:

“Entrepreneurship in India is booming, thanks to Shark Tank. People are solving real-world problems with visionary ideas. My message to everyone: Don’t just think about your idea—act on it!”

His resilience and vision have made him a role model for aspiring entrepreneurs, proving that nothing is impossible with determination and the right mindset.

Srikanth Bolla’s journey from a visually impaired boy in a small village to a successful entrepreneur and investor is a testament to his unbreakable spirit and relentless pursuit of success. As a judge on Shark Tank India, he is set to inspire countless others to turn their dreams into reality.
